Dear Families & Caregivers,

We would like to remind everyone that with the CUPE strike action happening there are a few things that are impacting our school community.  In the morning our doors will be opening at 8:00am and students are now asked to leave the school no later than 45 minutes after the school bell.  Students who are involved in an athletic event, supervised by a teacher, are able to participate in that event, which will be finished no later than 6pm.   For current information regarding strike action please visit this link for current information.

We have some updates and important information below so please ensure you update your calendars!

Sincerely,

Jack James Admin

JJ Video

Jack James High School is creating a video to highlight our unique programs, students, and school community, with a strong focus on the trades and hands-on learning opportunities. This video will showcase the engaging, practical experiences our students receive as they prepare for careers or post-secondary education. It will be used in Calgary Board of Education (CBE) publications and may also appear on CBE and school social media platforms. If you are comfortable with your student being featured, please have them complete an additional media release form (they may have brought one home already from one of their classes)

The grad list has been posted!

Students are encouraged to check if their name is on the list, as eligibility to walk the stage requires being within one semester of completing either a certificate or diploma. For those needing an additional year to finish their courses, a Returning Grade 12 application process will be available in the spring. You can still walk the stage if you are wanting to return. If you have any questions about your graduation status, please connect with your guidance counselor or Assistant Principal.

Grad Photos

Grad photos will also be coming up soon—whether you plan to purchase a photo package or not, you can still have your picture taken for free to be included on the grad wall.

Grad Photography Dates: March 10, 11, 12

The sessions will be 30 minutes, and will do formal cap/gown photos as well as casual photos.  (ex. Jeans/Tshirt,  Sports uniform, etc)

We highly suggest males bring a dress shirt and tie for formal photos and females wear v-neck or scoop neck top for formal photos. Unfortunately, we will not have shirts and ties for graduates to use.

The use of props provided by Lifetouch (roses, diploma scroll) is voluntary and we have implemented safety protocols for sanitizing props or will provide one time use props for each sitting. Graduates may also bring appropriate props to be included in their sitting. (ex. football, musical instrument, etc)

Students MUST sign up at: https://prestigeportraits.ca

There is a $40 sitting fee for those who want to purchase a package OR if they just want the one photo, it is free of cost

If they are having trouble signing up, they can reach out to Alyx Koziak, our contact at Lifetouch: e: alyx.koziak@lifetouch.ca   p: 780.437.2431 ext. 72022

MENTAL HEALTH RESOURCE | THE SUMMIT

The Summit is designed and built to provide mental health services for children and youth. The centre offers therapeutic support through a day hospital and community based treatment. It also provides walk-in services for anyone under 18 years of age and their family who would like to speak with a counselor. Walk-in services do not require a referral. When in crisis, families can see a psychologist and be assessed where they will make a plan and can also connect them to resources in the community. They also have a sexual health program available on a walk-in basis.
