Jags Journal – March 6

Dear Jack James Community,

 Grad Photos are at the school on March 9-11. An email with a link to book was sent home to all Grade 12 students.  If you need the link resent, contact the main office.

 Parent/Guardian Conferences are in person on Thursday, March 19. The booking will open on Monday, March 9. Please use this link to book your conferences  https://jackjames.cbe.ab.ca/teacher-conference  Walk in’s are welcome based on availability.

If you can’t attend conferences on Thursday evening, call or email your student’s teacher to make an appointment for Friday, March 20.

 We have an upcoming casino fundraiser on May 9 and 10 and are in need of volunteers. If you are interested in volunteering, please email jackjames@cbe.ab.ca or call the main office, and we will pass your contact information along to School Council.

Community Resource Fair

Jack James is hosting a Community Resource Fair during Parent Teacher Conferences on March 19th. Join us in the cafeteria to meet with representatives from a variety of organizations that can help support the transition to adulthood. Organizations will be able to support with post-secondary options, financial planning, accessing PDD/AISH, mental health and wellness, career planning, and more. Some of the organizations attending include SAIT, Easter Seals Alberta, Bow Valley College, Hull: Bridging the Gap, Calgary Transit, and Mount Royal University.

 Jack James Preschool

Jack James Preschool registration for September 2026 starts March 1st. Email Ms. Elia at amelia@cbe.ab.ca if you would like a registration form and additional information sent to you.  Please complete the form and return it to Ms. Elia along with your $25 non-refundable fee (can be paid CASH, Cheque, or Credit Card).

Alternatively, you are more than welcome to drop in for a tour of our preschool or schedule a specific time. We follow the high school bell schedule so visits must happen between 9:15 am and 3:00 pm Monday through Thursday, or 9:00-1:00 on Fridays.

 Sewing Club

Sewing Club is happening every Thursday after school! 3:37 to 4:37. All are welcome:) Please see Ms. Bloxham if your are interested.

 Unique Pathways

March 11| Unique Pathways Spring Info Night 2026, 5:00- 7:00PM

Grades 10-12

Location: Career and Technology Centre at Lord Shaughnessy High School (2336 - 53 Ave SW, Calgary, AB T3E 1L2) 

 Unique Pathways would like to invite high school students and parents to our spring Info Night about Dual Credit and Exploratory programming! Students the opportunity to ask questions of industry experts, connect with post-secondary representatives, and explore course outlines and materials. It’s a chance to discover opportunities that support their interests and help shape potential career paths. We will also be offering brief sit-down information sessions for students and parents to learn more about Unique Pathways and Off-campus Education, and to ask questions of our team. Please note that these are general information sessions; specific program details will not be shared. The session will be repeated multiple times throughout the event, with times posted at the entrance.  R12 Information

Students who are looking to come back in 2026-27 for a Returning Grade 12 year will need to fill out an application form in April.  To be eligible for a R12 year students need to have the following:

·         Students who have current attendance rate of at least 70%

·         Students who follow the School Code of Conduct

·         The purpose for being an R12 is to complete their K&E Certificate, High School Diploma, or other requirements for a program for postsecondary

·         Students require a minimum of 2 additional courses that are currently offered at Jack James

·         Students must be approved by the Principal

 An information session will take place just after March Break sharing more details about the application process and requirements.

 Calgary Junior Police Academy

Have you ever wondered what it's like to be a police officer? The Calgary Police Service Junior Police Academy gives youth aged 12 to 16 the opportunity to find out.

Junior Police Academy runs three times a year.

The 2026 Junior Police Academy sessions are:

·         Sunday, April 5, to Friday, April 10, 2026

·         Sunday, July 12, to Friday, July 17, 2026

·         Sunday, Aug. 9, to Friday, Aug. 14, 2026

 Youth registered in the Junior Police Academy will get an immersive experience into the world of a Calgary police officer, covering various aspects of law enforcement, including:

·         HAWCS helicopters

·         K9

·         Mounted Unit

·         Crime Scene Unit

·         Tactical Team

·         Traffic Unit

·         and more.
